SUNRISE, Fla. – An off-duty Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy was killed in a motorcycle crash on Thursday in Sunrise.

Scattered car parts and debris littered Pine Island Road just north of Northwest 44th Street after the severe crash left two people with injuries and one man dead.

The fatal crash happened just after 1 p.m. when witnesses said the motorcyclist crashed into a car attempting to make a turn onto Springtree Lakes Drive.

The two women in that vehicle – a mother and her adult daughter – were rushed to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries while the man on that motorcycle lost his life despite first responders who tried to save his life.

Relatives identified the victim as 27-year-old Anthony Zahorovsky, a deputy with the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Family members said Zahorovsky said he was a father of a little boy and that his wife is expecting their second child.

“He was family-oriented, a good father,” said Catherine Ruiz, the victim’s cousin. “He was always there for all of us. I was going to see him in the next few hours. We were going to hang out for the Fourth of July and he was on his way to get supplies.”

Local 10 News learned there may be a police escort as Zahorovsky’s body is taken to the medical examiner’s office.
